It Is Time For A Qui-Gon Jinn Film

It is Time for a Qui-Gon Jinn Film

I always liked Liam Neeson’s performance as Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace . He had a type of nobility to him. But he also was a man that would push the boundaries of the Jedi Order. To me that made him very unique. There were several moments in The Phantom Menace that gave him a depth that other characters in the film did not achieve. A perfect example was the scene where he meditated while waiting to resume his duel with Darth Maul. I think for many, his actions were a bit surprising (especially in an action sequence). As a result we had one of the truly special moments of The Phantom Menace.

Qui-Gon Meditation

While most of Lucasfilm's attention is on the time period of the Original Trilogy and the years following, I believe it is time to start going back. And I believe that Qui-Gon Jinn is the gateway to returning to an earlier time period in the Star Wars chronology. What follow are the reasons why I think a stand alone film should be made with Qui-Gon Jinn as a central character:

So why have a Qui-Gon Film?

First, it would be fun to explore a time period where we can see not only a younger Qui-Gon. Imagine not only a young Qui-Gon but a younger Count Dooku, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and even a Yoda. I think it could be compelling to see some, if not all of these characters, and give a further depth to the Prequel Era films, novels, comics, and cartoons. Personally I would like to see Qui-Gon train a teenage Obi-Wan, or maybe even see a young Qui-Gon under the leadership of Dooku.

Secondly, there is a mystery to the time period before The Phantom Menace that has largely gone untapped. While mystery can be an excellent thing (mystery allows fandom to imagine and fill in the gaps), I do think that Qui-Gon is the perfect choice to show us what was going on during that time period.

In an interview with Alexander Freed on The Unmistakably Star Wars Podcast (link to the interview here), Freed said one area he would like to explore in a novel would be the mysticism of the Force. Qui-Gon, because of his interesting views on Anakin and the Force (which could be seen as a departure from the Jedi Order), would be the perfect vehicle to explore just that. Perhaps Qui-Gon could lead us on the exploration of how a Jedi can become “one with the Force”?

Casting is something that also comes up when imagining who could play Qui-Gon Jinn. Liam Neeson was amazing as Qui Gon. Hard to imagine anyone filling his shoes. Right? Nevertheless here is my candidate to play the Jedi: Tom Hiddleston Is the next Qui-Gon Jinn

Yep. Tom Hiddleston.

So you ready to go to a theater to see a Qui-Gon Jinn stand alone film? Yeah me too!
